Snowmass Village Between Seasons: Who Stays Open, Who Comes Back, and the Weekend the Saved Snow Comes Out

Snowmass Village Between Seasons: Who Stays Open, Who Comes Back, and the Weekend the Saved Snow Comes Out

Snowmass Village doesn't close all at once in the fall. Places shut in a set order over about five weeks. Base Village goes first and most completely. Snowmass Center, at 16 Kearns Rd., keeps every business on its fall list open all season. By Nov. 1, the restaurants still serving are mostly on Kearns Road and the Mall, and that holds until the reopening wave that runs up to the projected Nov. 26 ski opening.

The fall schedule comes from the closure list Snowmass Tourism published on Sept. 14. The same list says many businesses that stay open close on Mondays and Tuesdays during the offseason and that hours can change as reopening dates get close. Every date below comes from that list, so call ahead before you go anywhere.

October 3 Is the Last Full Weekend, and It Has Snow

The first weekend of October has the most going on of anything between now and Thanksgiving. Back in April, Aspen Snowmass became the first operator in Colorado to use Snow Secure insulation mats. It covered leftover snow on Snowmass and Buttermilk as a pilot to give the next winter's early snowpack a head start. As of Aug. 31, drone measurements showed about 85% of the snow volume still under the blankets, after nearly five months covered.

That snow is being uncovered on Snowmass for a free pre-season rail park on Oct. 3 and 4, with rail and box features for all ability levels. Coney Express runs to mid-station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Guests without an eligible pass can pick up a free lift ticket at its base. Riders carry their gear up, walk down to the park and walk out to the Snowmass Mall when they're done. The blankets stay on at Buttermilk for now.

Two more events share that weekend:

  • Snowmass Community Picnic, Saturday, Oct. 3, noon to 2 p.m., at Town Park, 2000 Brush Creek Rd. This year adds a new bake contest.
  • Fall Fest at Elk Camp, Oct. 3 and 4, noon to 4:30 p.m., with live music, a pumpkin patch, caramel apples, family activities, drink specials and giveaways. Kids 12 and under ride the gondola free.

The same weekend is also the last service for several restaurants. Aurum Food & Wine, Montevino and Venga Venga list Oct. 3 as their closing date. Sundae and Pine Creek Cookhouse list Oct. 4. On Sunday, Four Mountain Sports and Four Mountain Kids close at Base Village, and Snowmass Sports closes on the Mall.

Base Village Closes First

After that weekend, the closing dates fall in a clear order. Base Village's restaurants close through October and finish together on Nov. 1.

Date Base Village Snowmass Mall
Sept. 27–30 Crêpe Therapy Café, Slope & Hatch, JÜS, Ro + Fern New Belgium Ranger Station, The Stew Pot, Fuel Cafe
Oct. 1–4 Aurum Food & Wine, Montevino, Sundae, Four Mountain Sports Grub Thai, One Vibe, Venga Venga, Snowmass Sports
Oct. 10–19 Kenichi, Limelight Lounge Four Mountain Sports Mall Shop, Snowmass Trading Company, Rock Island Oyster Bar & Grill
Oct. 24–25 Gorsuch Ski Cafe, Après Deck
Nov. 1 Café V, Lift Line Tavern, Toro

Lift Line Tavern at the Viceroy, 130 Wood Rd., opened in January 2026 and is now heading into its first fall break. The Collective, at 49 Wood Rd., has listed itself as "Closed for Off Season" on its events calendar since Sept. 28. By the first week of November, the Base Village businesses listed as open all season are TAC Fitness and Eye Pieces, and Eye Pieces may run reduced hours.

The Mall closes more slowly. Après Deck opened by the Viewline this summer and stays open until Oct. 25. Gorsuch Ski Cafe lasts until Oct. 24. Il Poggio, Heather's at the Stonebridge Inn, Snacfood and Snowmass Lanes with 105 Pizza + Bowl have no fall dates on the list, so call them directly.

What Stays Open on Kearns Road and the Mall

Snowmass Center is the one place where the fall list shows no gaps. Clark's Market, Ajax Supply, Sundance Liquor & Gifts and The Snowmass Dispensary are listed open all season. So are the two restaurants there, Taster's at 16 Kearns Rd., Suite 110A, and Daly Diner, also at 16 Kearns Rd. Taster's closes for Thanksgiving Day only.

On the Mall, The Tavern and Zane's Tavern are both marked "Open through Fall Season." Daly Bottle & Grain Fine Food, Challenge Aspen and Guapodog are listed open all season, and Christy Sports stays open on reduced hours. After Nov. 1, those two taverns and the two Snowmass Center restaurants are the only places on the published list with confirmed fall service.

Weeknight Plans at Anderson Ranch

While restaurants close, Anderson Ranch Arts Center keeps a full fall calendar of free talks with visiting artists and critics, most of them at 4:30 p.m.:

  1. Oct. 8, 4 to 5 p.m. Fall Artists-in-Residence Slide Night, in person and online. A gallery reception for Benjamin Timpson's exhibition "The Weight of Light" follows from 5 to 6 p.m. The show runs through Oct. 30.
  2. Oct. 13, 4:30 p.m. Visiting artist Serban Ionescu.
  3. Oct. 20, 4:30 p.m. Visiting artist Heehyun Choi.
  4. Oct. 28, 4:30 p.m. Visiting critic Damien Davis.
  5. Nov. 3, 4:30 p.m. Visiting artist James Casebere.

The calendar also lists Spooktacular Creepy Crafts on Oct. 30. The Ranch's free Día de los Muertos craft morning on Oct. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is held at the Pitkin County Library in Aspen, not at the Ranch.

The Elk Hunt Closes Sky Mountain Park in November

Most of the fall is open trail season, with one exception. Pitkin County has scheduled an elk hunt in Sky Mountain Park for Nov. 18 through 22, 2026. The park will be closed to most public access during the fourth rifle season. The 2026 notice doesn't yet say whether any trails will stay open. Last year's exceptions applied only to 2025, so check the county's update before planning a ride on Highline or Lowline that week.

The town's most recently posted closure calendar covers the 2025–26 season. It put Rim Trail North, Seven Star, Upper North Mesa Equestrian and Viewline/Deadline on a winter closure from Dec. 1 to May 15. A 2026–27 schedule hasn't been posted yet, so check trailhead signage this fall.

The Reopening Wave, Nov. 20 to Dec. 10

Places come back more quickly than they closed. Most reopen over about a week:

  • Nov. 20: Grub Thai, Kenichi, Smash & Dash Burger
  • Nov. 21: Gorsuch Ski Cafe
  • Nov. 23: Café V, Lift Line Tavern, Toro, Après Deck, One Vibe
  • Nov. 25: Limelight Lounge
  • Nov. 26: Aurum Food & Wine, New Belgium Ranger Station, The Stew Pot, Crêpe Therapy Café
  • Nov. 27: Venga Venga
  • Dec. 1 to Dec. 10: The Edge, then Ro + Fern on Dec. 7 and Pine Creek Cookhouse on Dec. 10

Several things will look different when the lifts start. Ullrhof, the mid-mountain restaurant on Snowmass, started a complete rebuild in summer 2025 and is set to reopen this winter. It will be Aspen Snowmass's first fully electric restaurant, with seating for more than 600. The 93-room Stonebridge Inn reopens in December after a $15.7 million renovation. The Timberline Condominiums are finishing the last stage of a $25 million multi-year renovation for the 2026–27 season. The Collective's winter lineup adds two new series, Collective Conversations and Community Lunch & Learn Workshops. Toddler Time returns Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon in the Game Lounge. Wintersköl's 75th year, Dec. 10 to 13, includes a holiday market in Snowmass Village.
